About Kuwait

Kuwait History

Kuwait is small country located near the Arabian Gulf in the Middle East. It was known as one of the oldest establishments in the area. Around the early 1700s, Kuwait slowly became a principal commercial center for the transit of goods between India, Muscat, Baghdad, Persia, and Arabia. By the late-1700s, Kuwait had already established itself as a trading route from the Arabian Gulf to Aleppo. During the Persian siege of Basra in 1775–1779, Iraqi merchants took refuge in Kuwait and were partly instrumental in the expansion of Kuwait's boatbuilding and trading activities. As a result, Kuwait's maritime commerce boomed.

The Discovery of Oil

Changing Kuwait's Future

The post-oil era of Kuwait was known as the start of a rapidly growing economy. With an influx of immigrants, the country changed its directions and focused on creating a better environment for its Citizens, and being the center of commerce in the region. This was supported by the country making sure not to implement any income tax and bring the import duties as low as possible.

For a country that used to be poor with pearl diving as its main source of its national income, the discovery of oil was a turning point in changing the direction of the country to the better. Its leadership made sure to take advantage of that by pushing for industrial, economic and structural growth, turning Kuwait into the hub of commerce and tourist at the time.
